Al Jazira's new signing Ernest Asante impressed as the Pride of Abu Dhabi thrashed Fujairah 5-2 at Mohammad Bin Zayed Stadium, in matchweek 1 of the Arabian Gulf Cup Group B.
The hosts got off to a flyer, as Sebastien Siani released Asante behind Fujairah's backline with an accurate long through pass, and the Ghanaian calmly placed the ball into the back of the net with a stylish lob in the seventh minute.
Less than ten minutes later, Abdalla Ramadan doubled Al Jazira’s lead, as he capitalised on Leonardo Pereira's pass with a powerful left footed shot past Fujairah goalkeeper Abdulla Nasser, following a clever feint by Ahmed Rabia.
The Brazilian then turned from creator to scorer, as his perfectly curled free-kick from the edge of the box nestled into the top corner of Nasser's net, making it 3-0 in the 40th minute.
To rub salt into the opposition's wounds, Salim Rashid unleashed a powerful right footed shot from outside the penalty box that left Nasser helpless, following a well worked one-two with Rabia, just two minutes before the half-time whistle.
Rabia extended Al Jazira's lead to 5-0 in the 57th minute, when he converted Asante's low cross into the back of Nasser's net with a simple finish from close range.
The Wolves' reduced the deficit 20 minutes before the final whislte through captain Omar Kossoko thanks to a powerful effort from the edge of the penalty box.
Ahmad Murad then scored his side's second goal of the night, as he finished from Kossoko's accurate low cross to make it 5-2 in the 76th minute.
Following the result, Al Jazira top Group B table with three points and are set to face Emirates on the tenth of September. Meanwhile, Fujairah sit at the bottom of Group B with zero points and will face Al Dhafra on the same day in matchweek 2 of the Arabian Gulf Cup.
