PLC hosts second Workshop for Venue Managers

Abu Dhabi: 18 March 2014
The Pro League Committee hosted its second two-day workshop for Venue Managers on Sunday and Monday at its headquarters in Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi.
The second workshop was a continuation of the training being provided by PLC to all clubs’ newly-appointed Venue Managers in order to prepare them for fully assuming their duties at the start of next season. The workshop kicked off with a warm welcoming speech from Suhail Al Areefi, Deputy CEO of the Pro League Committee, who highlighted the vital roles the Venue Managers will play in the development of both their individual clubs and of football in the UAE overall.
The workshop began in earnest with an interactive presentation by Michelle Chai, PLC Technical & Competitions Director, who stressed the importance of the Venue Managers’ duties and reminded the new recruits that they are responsible for everything in their stadium and are the main point of contact for all venue-related matters, telling them: “The stadium is your home; take pride in it.”
Chai then explained in detail the requirements for stadium floodlights and how to best position and measure the light, noting that from next season all clubs will be required to upgrade to FIFA Class IV floodlights as is regulated for all televised games worldwide.
The workshop then moved onto the topic of Marketing, led by Budreya Faisal, PLC’s Senior Marketing & Sponsorship Manager, who introduced the idea of commercial rights and media value to the Venue Managers before giving a full explanation of the LED perimeter boards, in-stadium branding, Arabian Gulf League sponsors and club sponsors, media backdrops, and ticketing.
Ammar Hina, PLC’s Broadcast Services Manager, then presented on the topic of television broadcast and all operational and logistical matters relating to TV crews at the stadia, before Michelle Chai concluded the first day’s proceedings with an overview of Media Operations on match days.
The second day of the workshop was attended by Colin Smith, CEO of the Pro League Committee, as Ahmad Barakat, Commercial Director and Operating Officer of Al Ain Club Investment Company, gave the Venue Managers a detailed insight into match operations and organisation at Al Ain’s new Hazza bin Zayed Stadium.
Michelle Chai then concluded the workshop with a run-through of the match day checklist, explaining its use as a tool for coordinating between all departments and eliminating errors to ensure smooth operational running on match days.
