Ahmed Khalil earned a late 1-0 win for Shabab Al Ahli against Al Jazira at Mohammad bin Zayed Stadium in matchweek 14 of the Arabian Gulf League on Monday.
The game got off to a fiery start when Abdalla Bekheet sent a well-placed long through pass towards Ali Al Hajeri, however, the striker failed to convert as his weak right-footed shot hit the post just 15 minutes into the game.
Two minutes ahead of the break, Mauro Diaz controlled the ball around the edge of the box and went past Nacer Barazite with a clever feint, but his right-footed strike went just over the bar.
Around the one-hour mark, Al Hajeri advanced towards the box and released Ernest Asante with a golden through pass, however, the Ghanaian's lobbed shot was brilliantly saved by Majed Maqdamy.
The visitors responded in the 66th minute through Ismail Al Hammadi, but his right-footed first-time strike skimmed beside Ali Al Hosani's right post.
In the dying moments of the game, Majed Al Ahmadi advanced up the right wing and sent a low cross inside Al Jazira's box that reached Khalil after a poor clearance by the Pride of Abu Dhabi's defence. The number 11 striker drilled the ball into the bottom corner to snatch the full three points for the away side.
Following the game, Al Jazira sits second with 28 points ahead of their encounter against Fujairah. Meanwhile, Shabab Al Ahli occupies the fourth spot with the same number of points and will face Ajman in matchweek 15 of the Arabian Gulf League.
