Caio Canedo found the back of the net twice as Al Ain defeated Al Jazira 3-0 at Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium in matchweek 3 of the Arabian Gulf Cup.
Al Ain started off the game on the right foot. Only six minutes into the match, Abderrahmane Meziane went inside the box, however, his right-footed weak curler was stopped by Salam Khairi.
The Boss continued to have the upper hand in the game and eventually broke the deadlock in the 39th minute. Andrija Radovanovic was awarded a freekick in a dangerous zone and Canedo found the back of the empty net after the Serbian's initial freekick strike hit the woodwork.
The 29-year-old forward continued to impress and doubled his tally just three minutes after the restart. Al Ain's new signing finished Meziane's well-placed cross with a clever diving header.
In the 56th minute, Al Jazira tried to reduce the deficit when Mohamed Fawzi sent a perfectly-executed cross towards Salem Al Eedi. However, the latter’s flying header cannoned off the crossbar.
Ten minutes later, the Pride of Abu Dhabi wasted another glorious chance to reduce the deficit when they were awarded a penalty kick after a challenge from Mohamed Bu Senda on Saleh Nasser. The goalkeeper denied Abdalla Ramadan's effort from the spot to maintain his side's two-goal lead.
Jamal Maroof sealed the victory for the Boss in the dying moments of the game. Omar Yasin received a long through pass behind Al Jazira's defence and squared the ball towards the 27-year-old striker, who was left with a simple tap in from a close range.
The win takes Al Ain to Group A's second spot with four points, while Al Jazira occupy the fifth position with three points after falling to their second defeat in a row.
