www.uaeproleague.ae: Jan 1, 2020
Al Nasr came back from behind to defeat Al Jazira 2-1 at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in matchweek 12 of the Arabian Gulf League on Wednesday.
Al Jazira started on the front foot, and they were first to threaten when Thulani Serero released Ali Mabkhout behind Al Nasr's defenders, however, the striker's effort was denied by the goalkeeper in the ninth minute.
The two sides share possession in the remainder of the first half, but both failed to create any dangerous chances until two minutes before the break when Mabkhout sqaured the ball towards Keno . The Brazilian controlled it and dribbled skillfully past two defenders, but his shot was parried away by Ahmed Shambieh into a corner kick.
The second half started strongly as the Blues wasted a glorious chance to break the deadlock just five minutes after the restart. Toze found Brandley Kuwas in a dangerous zone inside the box, however, the winger's powerful strike cannoned off the crossbar.
The Pride of Abu Dhabi responded less than two minutes later with Mabkhout tapping into the empty net after Keno's initial effort was improperly handled by Shambieh, to open the scoreline.
Around five minutes past the one-hour mark, Al Nasr's Mahmoud Khamis crossed the ball towards Kuwas, who set it up for Toze near the edge of the box. The Portuguese drilled the ball into the bottom corner to level things up.
It only took the Blues three more minutes to complete their impressive comeback. Alvaro Negredo scored from the rebound as Abdulrahman Al Ameri's effort wasn't enough to stop Gabriel Valentini initial low shot.
Following the game, Al Nasr and Al Jazira occupy the third and fourth spots respectively, both with 23 points. The Blues will host Bani Yas, meanwhile, the Pride of Abu Dhabi face Ajman in matchweek 13 of the Arabian Gulf League.
