Al Jazira 1:2 Al Wasl .The Match Summary

News
agleague.ae: 21 August 2015
Al Wasl netted an impressive first round win over 10-man Al Jazira at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, running out 2-1 victors thanks to goals from Hugo Viana and Yaser Salem. An early red card for Al Jazira saw the hosts facing an uphill task and it proved to be an insurmountable one as head coach Abel Braga marked his return with a defeat.

It wasn’t the dream start Al Jazira had hoped for as Al Wasl went 1-0 up in spectacular fashion; Hugo Viana curling a tremendous left-footed free kick from distance into the back of Ali Khaseif’s net to give the visitors a 19th-minute lead. Things went from bad to worse for Al Jazira as they were reduced to 10 men in just the 23rd minute; defender Musallem Fayez receiving a straight red card for a rash challenge on Abdulla Al Junaibi, forcing the home team to deal with being a man down for the majority of the match. But the 10 men of Al Jazira hit back with an equaliser in the 40th minute as summer signing Thiago Neves opened his AGL account, striking low through a sea of bodies to level at 1-1.

Just five minutes after the interval the visitors were ahead again, as Yaser Salem anticipated well to beat the offside trap and capitalise on a deflection off Al Jazira’s defence, thrashing an instinctive first-time finish beyond Ali Khaseif to restore their lead at 2-1 early into the second half. The Cheetahs could have further extended their advantage but Khaseif leapt to beat away Edgar Bruno’s goal-bound header, and substitute Mohamed Khalfan went close late on but a 2-1 margin was enough for all three points.
