Al Jazira 2:2 Al Wahda. AG Cup. Match Summary

News 3 Sep. 2016
Al Jazira fought back from two goals down to share the points in a 2-2 draw with local rivals Al Wahda in the first round of the Arabian Gulf Cup. Jorge Valdivia and Sebastian Tagliabue had given the visitors the lead at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium but the hosts fought back through Mubarak Boussoufa and Fares Juma to take a point apiece in Group A.
The visitors took an early lead as Sebastian Tagliabue controlled a long ball over his shoulder to set up attack partner Jorge Valdivia, who struck through a sweet shot with the laces of his left boot on the volley to make it 1-0 in the 6th minute. Just three minutes later Valdivia believed he had been handed a chance to double the lead as he was brought down in the area, but to the Chilean’s bemusement he was instead booked for diving as the penalty appeal was waved away. By the 35th minute The Clarets had found their second goal, though, as Naser Abdelhadi set Sebastian Tagliabue away to run clean through on goal, and the Argentine forward made no mistake with only the goalkeeper Khalid Alsenaani to beat, and Al Wahda carried a 2-0 lead into the break.
Less than five minutes after the restart Al Jazira had cut the deficit to 2-1 as summer signing Mubarak Boussoufa struck into the roof of the net after an assist from Salim Rashid in the 50th minute. By the 58th minute it was level pegging as Fares Juma popped up to head home an equaliser. Things went from bad to worse for Al Wahda as they surrendered their two-goal lead and were then reduced to 10 men; Jorge Valdivia receiving a red card for his second booking after a rash challenge on Salim Rashid in the 66th minute. Exactly ten minutes later, though, the contest became ten versus ten as Salem Abdulla was also given his marching orders for a second yellow card on his Al Jazira debut. In the 85th minute Tagliabue almost pounced to punish a mistake between substitute Sultan Al Suwaidi and goalkeeper Khalid Alsenaani but somehow the top scorer from last season contrived to miss an open goal, whilst three minutes later at the other end Jefferson Farfan had a chance to win it for the hosts but his effort was saved by Adel Alhosani.
