The Abu Dhabi derby between Al Jazira and Al Wahda ended in a 2-2 draw in Round 4 of the Arabian Gulf Cup, failing to drastically improve either side’s chances of qualifying for the semi-finals from Group B. A brace from Mirko Vucinic and goals from Sebastian Tagliabue and Suhail Almansoori made it honours even at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium, giving Al Jazira a total of 2 points and Al Wahda 4 in a finely-balanced group.

The 9th minute saw Al Jazira come close to opening the scoring as Mirko Vucinic’s cross was met by the onrushing Jefferson Farfan, but Al Wahda goalkeeper Ali Alhosani was alert to make the save, whilst at the other end Sultan Saif, Suhail Almansoori and Denilson missed opportunities. But 5 minutes before the half-time break it was Al Jazira who were handed a clear route to get in front, as goalkeeper Ali Alhosani brought down Jefferson Farfan in the area to give away a penalty. Montenegrin striker Mirko Vucinic stepped up to squeeze the spot kick into the bottom corner, though Alhosani went the right way, and the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute.

Al Jazira goalkeeper Khalid Alsenaani made a double save to deny Sebastian Tagliabue from levelling the scores in the 54th minute, but by the 62nd minute Tagliabue had indeed equalised with a thumping header to power home half-time substitute Khalid Bawazir’s cross. The tie didn’t last long, though, as Mirko Vucinic netted his second of the match – this time from open play – as he latched onto an attempted clearance and curled a neat finish in at the far post to make it 2-1 in the 69th minute. Not to be beaten, though, Al Wahda hit back once more as youngster Suhail Almansoori pulled the trigger with his left foot on the edge of the area, squeezing his shot past Alsenaani and into the back of the net to level once more at 2-2 in the 82nd minute.
