Shabab Al Ahli advanced to the final of the Arabian Gulf Cup after defeating Al Jazira 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw at fulltime at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in the semi-final on Friday.
After a slow start, Shabab Al Ahli broke the deadlock in the 29th minute through Mohammed Marzooq, who converted Ahmed Khalil's pass into the back of the net.
Shabab Al Ahli nearly scored the second in the final moments of the first half, when Leonardo received a long pass and dribbled skillfully past Al Al Jazira's defenders, however, the Brazilian's effort hit the woodwork to keep it 1-0 into halftime.
The Pride of Abu Dhabi pushed forward in the second half in order to level things up and in the 58th minute, Salem Rashid set up the ball for Omar Abdulrahman near the edge of the box. The number 21 drilled the ball into the bottom corner to make it 1-1.
Al Jazira completed the comeback in the 75th minute through an own goal by Yousef Jaber. Abdulrahman sent a crossed freekick inside the box that the defender converted into the back of his own net.
The visitors responded immediately, as they were awarded a penalty kick in the 78th minute following Milos Kosanovic's careless tackle on Federico Cartabia, who sent the ball home from the spot to pull off a quick equaliser.
Both teams failed to score further goals until the referee blew the fulltime whistle. This meant that penalty shootout will decide who will reach the final, and it was Shabab Al Ahli.
Abdulrahman and Musallam Fayez missed for the Al Jazira, meanwhile, Shabab Al Ahli scored all their penalties to advance to the Arabian Gulf Cup final.
