uae.agleague.ae: March 1, 2019
Ali Mabkhout scored once and assisted twice as Al Jazira defeated Ajman 3-0 at Mohammad bin Zayed Stadium in matchweek 17 of the Arabian Gulf League on Friday.
After a slow start to the game, Leonardo Pereira broke the deadlock for Al Jazira in the 24th minute. The Brazilian received Ali Mabkhout's pass on the left flank and dribbled past Ajman's defender, before finishing the ball in the back of Ali Mohamed's net.
The Oranges responded in the final moments of the first half through Vander Vieira, who cut inside skillfully, but his strike cannoned off the post to deny Ajman the equalizing goal.
On the 70-minute mark, Ali Mabkhout doubled the lead for the Pride of Abu Dhabi. The league's top scorer capitalized on Waleed Abdulla's defensive blunder and unleashed a powerful low shot that drilled into the bottom corner.
Six minutes later, Mabkhout turned from scorer to producer, when he squared the ball towards Abdalla Ramadan with a clever backheel pass. The number 35 midfielder slotted the ball into the top corner with a clever left-footed curler to secure the full mark for the hosts.
Following the win, Al Jazira are back into third place with 34 points ahead of their anticipated encounter against league leaders Sharjah. Meanwhile, Ajman occupy the eighth position with 23 points and are set to face Bani Yas next week.
