Al Jazira Allows Al Nasr To Return with the 3 Points

Abu Dhabi: 28 November 2013
The team lost the 3 points of their match against Al Nasr in Mohammed bin Zayed stadium in the eighth round of the Arabian Gulf League, when they failed to overcome or equalize the 2 goals they conceded at the night of Thursday 28th of November.
Zenga relied on startup line consisted of: Ali Khaseif, Abdullah Musa, Musallem Fayez, Ali Al Ameri, Hyung Min Chin, Abdullah Qasim, Khamis Ismail, Subait Khater, Abdulaziz Barrada, Ricardo Oliveira and Ali Mabkhout.
Al Jazira came close to taking an early lead as Ricardo Oliveira burst down the left in the 5th minute, but Al Jazira’s Brazilian captain could only direct his shot into the side netting.
Ali Mabkhout almost stole in at the back in the 21st minute but he couldn’t get enough power in his effort to trouble Yousef Abdulla in between the sticks for Al Nasr.
Just after half an hour the deadlock was broken, with the opening goal of the encounter going to the visitors. Habib Al Fardan raced unmarked into the area and powered home a header from Khamis Ahmed’s cross at the back post, giving Ivan Jovanovic’s side a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute.
Things went from bad to worse for Al Jazira when Ali Mabkhout was stretchered off with an injury in the 44th minute, with last week’s derby match-winner Nelson Valdez coming on in his place just before half time.
The team was wasteful with set pieces in the opening stages of the second half, and in the 54th minute the hosts were let off the hook as Al Nasr striker Eder Luis blasted an effort high over the crossbar from a promising position.
Al Jazira streamed upfield in a flurry of action, seeing Nelson Valdez’s goalbound effort desperately diverted to safety, before the Paraguay striker had the ball in the back of the net in the same minute, only to see his header ruled out for offside.
The guests countered Al Jazira’s purple patch and scored a spectacular second in the 58th minute through an extraordinary strike by Ibrahima Toure. The tall Senegalese striker hit a left-footed lob over Ali Khaseif from distance to score his 8th League goal of the season, putting Al Nasr 2-0 in front.
It wasn’t all rosy for the Blues though, as they were reduced to 10 men in the 67th minute when Tariq Ahmed was shown a straight red card after a rash two-footed lunge on Abdulla Mousa.
Valdez tried to capitalize on the one-man advantage by attempting an overhead kick, and though his effort hit the target Yousef Abdulla was equal to it and made the save.
Al Jazira couldn’t make their deliveries count from a number of corners they won in quick succession, until the 89th minute when Khamis Esmail pulled a goal back for the home side in stunning fashion, letting rip with a right-footed thunderbolt from 30 yards to make it 2-1 and set up a frantic final few minutes.
Oliveira went close moments later, forcing an unconventional save from Yousef Abdulla, and again in injury time but the striker could only aim his shot at the goalkeeper and the game ended 2-1.
This defeat froze Al Jazira league credit at the 12th point, and they rolled back to the sixth place temporarily until the end of this round.
