Al Jazira Loses and Complicates the Qualification Chances in the Cup

News 19 November 2014
A young Al Jazira team slumped to a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Ajman in Round 4 of the Arabian Gulf Cup. The result means Al Jazira have just 3 points from 4 games in Group A, whilst Ajman increased their return to 4 points from 3 games, overtaking their opponents in the standings.
In just the 4th minute Ajman had the ball in the back of the net through Ahmed Malalla, but his effort was correctly ruled out for offside. In the opening 20 minutes flashes of brilliance down the right were evident from young prospect Khalfan Mubarak but Ajman goalkeeper Ali Mesmari blocked Hamad Al Hosani’s effort from close range, and an end-to-end game also saw shots from distance by Yaser Matar and Driss Fettouhi. The turning point came as a penalty was awarded to Ajman after Hassan Ameen brought down Driss Fettouhi in the box, and Waleed Ahmed slotted his spot-kick into the bottom left corner to give Ajman a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute. Four minutes later it was 2-0; captain Boris Kabi turning Hamad Al Hammadi and scuffing a right-footed finish from just outside the area and watching it nestle into the bottom corner of Khalid Alsenaani’s net.
