Al Jazira Slips and Surrender Their Lead against Al Wahda

News
Abu Dhabi: 30 November 2014

The Abu Dhabi derby ended in a draw as a late couple of goals saw Al Jazira held 1-1 at home by top-of-the-table Al Wahda in Round 9 of the Arabian Gulf League. The result means Al Jazira stay in second place, just one point behind their opponents on 18 from 9 fixtures.

A goalless first half saw glaring misses for both sides; firstly Al Wahda’s Mohamed Al Shehhi failing to convert after a setup from Sebastian Tagliabue, and then Mirko Vucinic uncharacteristically lacking a clinical edge and firing straight at Adel Alhosani on the rebound from Ali Mabkhout’s parried shot. The game looked to be heading for a scoreless draw until a sudden explosion of late goals. Top scorer Mirko Vucinic took his AGL tally to an incredible 14 goals from 9 games in the 87th minute to give the hosts a late lead, but two minutes later the undefeated Al Wahda struck back through Kuwaiti defender Hussain Fadel, who got the decisive touch to push Ali Khaseif's spill from a Tagliabue shot to salvage a point for the visitors in the last minute of normal time.
