Al Jazira romped to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Al Nasr at Rashid bin Saeed Stadium in matchweek 3 of the Arabian Gulf Cup to overtake their opponents to the top of Group A.

In the absence of international players, Ali Mabkhout marked his return from injury with a 20th minute goal. The forward, captaining Al Jazira on the night, latched on to Romarinho's defence-splitting through pass and applied a first-touch finish into the bottom corner to hand The Pride of Abu Dhabi the lead.

The visitors doubled their advantage five minutes later in an identical manner. Romarinho dropped deep and sent a through-pass from inside Al Jazira's own half, sending Sardor Rashidov clear on goal. The Uzbek winger adjusted his body and placed a first-time shot past goalkeeper Mohamed Yousif with his left.

Al Jazira continued to dominate after the break and coach Henk ten Cate withdrew Mabkhout in the 65th minute, introducing young Ahmed Rabea. The 22-years-old repaid his manager's faith with instant impact, moving into space inside the area and converting home Rashidov's cross with his very first touch of the ball to complete Al Jazira's 3-0 win.

The result takes Al Jazira's Group A tally to seven points, continuing their unbeaten run and guaranteeing their place at the summit of the group for another matchweek. Al Nasr, meanwhile freeze at four points and could drop to third in the group by the end of the weekend's games.
