uae.agleague.ae: 17 December 2016
Al Nasr brought Arabian Gulf League leaders Al Jazira's unbeaten record to an end with an impressive 2-0 victory at the Al Maktoum Stadium in Round 12. Some determined defending was coupled with clinical finishing as the result moves Al Nasr onto 18 points, whilst Al Jazira remain on 26 after suffering their first defeat of the campaign.
With no goals but plenty of combative midfield battles to report in the first half, it was the hosts who took the initiative to break the deadlock after the break. The goal didn't come until the 62nd minute, but for the home fans it was worth waiting for as Mahmoud Khamis' corner bobbled up off Al Jazira's Mubarak Boussouffa in the box before centre-back Khalifa Mubarak rose highest in the area to direct a header into the far corner of Ali Khaseif's net. In the 73rd minute the lethal Ali Mabkhout was served within close range of goal as Al Jazira sought to hit back with an equaliser, but defender Mubarak Saeed got across to make a timely intervention and prevent the top scorer from pulling the trigger. A considerable number of cards were brandished throughout the night and it was Al Jazira who were eventually on the receiving end of a red; Salom Rashid given his marching orders in the 89th minute for his second booking of the game, as the 10-man visitors struggled to find a way back, and in fact it was Al Nasr who rubbed salt into the wound deep into stoppage time as substitute Jonathan Pitroipa completed a simple finish against his former side to round off a 2-0 win in the 90+6th minute.
