Al Wasl 2 : 2 Al Jazira. AGL. Match Summary

News 8 Jan. 2016
Al Wasl and Al Jazira shared the points in an entertaining 2-2 draw in Round 14 of the Arabian Gulf League. Goals from Thiago Neves and Sultan Alshamsi for the visitors, and Abdulla Kazim and Fabio de Lima for the hosts mean Al Wasl now have 24 points in 4th place, whilst Al Jazira stay 10th with 15 points at the start of the second half of the season.
New Al Jazira signing Kenwyne Jones drew a double save from Al Wasl goalkeeper Rashid Ali in the 11th minute as he looked to make an early impact on his debut, and another new boy looking to make a name for himself Angel Lafita did all the hard work to skip through Al Wasl’s back line, but Rashid Ali again made the stop. In the 21st minute, though, the visitors made the breakthrough in rather fortuitous fashion as Thiago Neves’ free kick struck the wall and was directed into the back of the net via a deflection off Hassan Zahran to give Al Jazira a 1-0 lead.
With the visitors holding their one-goal lead at the interval, Al Wasl came out all guns bazing in the second half and Fabio de Lima saw a strike cleared off the line by Fares Juma in the 53rd minute as the hosts desperately attempted to draw back level. Two minutes later half-time substitute Abdulla Kazim skipped through on goal but the ball was smothered by goalkeeper Khalid Alsenaani, though the equaliser they had been threatening finally arrived in the 58th minute as a corner kick headed goalwards by Caio Canedo got the decisive nod from Abdulla Kazim to make it 1-1. Al Jazira goalkeeper Alsenaani was substituted in the aftermath of the goal, with Saif Al Badi coming on in his place, but it was Rashid Ali who was the next goalkeeper to be picking the ball out of the back of his net, as a header on by Ali Mabkhout set young Al Jazira striker Sultan Alshamsi away to finish from a tight angle and make it 2-1 in the 67th minute. Al Wasl then made a double substitution immediately after falling behind, bringing off defenders Hazza Salem and Hassan Zahran in favour of Mohamed Jamal and attacking midfielder Mohamed Khalfa, and in the 78th minute the attacking change paid off as Fabio de Lima powered a bullet header into the back of the net from Hugo Viana’s corner to make it 2-2. Only the woodwork prevented Al Wasl from going 3-2 ahead in the 86th minute with Fabio de Lima going down in the area under the close attention of Abdullah Mousa, but there was to be no winning goal in the game.
