Al Jazira tightened their grip on the top spot of the Arabian Gulf League with a solid 3-1 win against bottom placed Bani Yas in round 18 of the competition.

Suhail Al Ameri, member of Bani Yas Club's first board of directors at the club's establishment in 1982 and Hussein Yaslam, former Bani Yas striker and winner of the 1991-92 UAE President Cup with the club were honoured before the match as part of the Pro League Committee's "Symbols of Giving" initiative, taking place over rounds 18 and 19 of the Arabian Gulf League.
Al Jazira started quick and Brazilian winger Leonardo fired a strong shot in the 22nd minute that was converted for a corner by the Bani Yas goalkeeper.

At the half hour mark, winger Khalfan Mubarak attempted to round the goalkeeper, but he was brought down and the referee pointed to the spot for a penalty kick. Al Jazira top goalscorer Ali Mabkhout stepped up and scored from the spot to give his side the lead.
The scenario was repeated 13 minutes later with Mubarak Al Mansoori the culprit this time after tripping Khalfan Mubarak inside the box. Mabkhout was again on scoring duty, doubling the visitors lead and taking them into the break with a comfortable result.

Bani Yas started the second half in pursuit of a goal and they got it after just two minutes of the restart when French striker Jean-Philipe Mendy got on the end of a corner kick and headed in, cutting the deficit to one goal.

Three minutes before the end of the match, Moroccan playmaker Mbark Boussoufa fired a long distance free-kick into the goal for a third Al Jazira goal.

A 15th win in 18 matches takes Al Jazira to 47 points, eight points clear of their nearest challengers, Al Wasl, with just eight matches to go in the season. Bani Yas remain bottom with 8 points, they are now 7 points adrift off the last survival spot, occupied by Dibba.
