Gerets: Facing Bani Yas at This Stage is Tricky

Abu Dhabi: 3 December 2014
“It’s very tricky to face Bani Yas at this stage but we have no choice except going there to fight and comeback with the three points”. That was the main theme of Eric Gerets comments during the press conference he held today to speak about his team preparations for the next league match against Bani Yas, the match that he and Mirko Vucinic described as hard and complicated.
Gerets start the press conference by saying “Bani Yas won their last away match with 7 goals, and this is why we need to be very careful and fully concentrated against them. We need to win this match to compensate the two points we lost two days ago in our home, but at the same time we can’t go out there and risk everything by running to attack without balancing our performance”.
The Belgian tactician added “our objectives are clear and obvious since we set them at the start of the competition, we have to fight for every point and give our best in every match until we finish the season at the first position. Now we are very close to the top spot but there’s a few complicated and tricky matches ahead of us in the next weeks of December, and the first tricky match is the upcoming one against Bani Yas. I watch recordings for their last matches and I saw how good they are, but what am focusing on now is preparing my team in the best possible way in this short period. We have to go there and express our abilities and show our real character and comeback victorious from there”.
The coach refused to compare between the draw they get in their home against Al Wahda, and the 7 goals victory that Bani Yas get from Al Fujairah stadium, he explained “You can’t compare these two results because the two teams faced a very different opponent. Our strategy against Bani Yas will be the usual one, we will try to be better organized, more decisive in front of the goal and to improve our defensive performance more than we did against Al Wahda. I respect all the teams but am managing Al Jazira, and that’s why I will apply our regular attacking methods in all the games and I will focus only on my team, not the opponent”.
The manager also refused to agree that his team is suffering from lack of concentration in front of the goal and missing a true playmaker to feed the attacker with enough assists, he explained “We are the best offensive team in the league and this is my answer to this comments. In the last game Al Wahda played against us with defensive strategy but we created chances and we had the opportunity to finish the first half leading by 3:0 but we were not lucky enough, I don’t expect this scenario to repeat itself in all the matches and am confident that we will resume our tradition by scoring too many goals in the next rounds. At the same time I admit that we lost our concentration at very crucial times and the opponent punished us when we thought we won before the end of the game, we will learn from our mistakes and we will improve on this side of the game”.
Vucinic: I care about winning games more than scoring goals
In the second part of the conference Mirko Vucinic, the top scorer of the league revealed that he cares about helping the team winning matches and getting points more than seeing himself celebrating goals.
The goal machine of Al Jazira said “We will play a very hard game after two days away from our home against a good team, but we don’t have any other options except going there and win, and what am sure about is that we will fight them in their stadium from the start until the last whistle and we will do whatever it takes to take the three points”.
Speaking about his personal his amazing scoring record and being top scorer with 14 goals from only 9 matches he said “I care about helping my team winning games and getting full points, not about seeing myself winning the title of the top scorer, of course I will be happy when I score, but will be more happier when Al Jazira finish their matches as the victorious side”.
The attacked finished by saying “I don’t care if I score against Bani Yas or another one of my teammates did, we lost two points in the last game and we can’t lose more points if we want to keep putting pressure on Al Wahda, we have to beat Bani Yas and wait for Al Wahda to slip to put ourselves in the top”.
