Streppel Insists Al Jazira Players Relishing Cup Challenge against Al Ain

Abu Dhabi, 5 September 2019
Al Jazira head coach Jurgen Streppel expects to see his players rise to the challenge when they face Al Ain in the Arabian Gulf Cup on Friday.
The Pride of Abu Dhabi welcome the Garden City outfit to Mohammed bin Zayed stadium with Streppel’s side aiming to get back to winning ways in the group stage after last week’s defeat in the competition.
The Dutchman insists the whole squad was disappointed by the loss and wants to see his players produce better performance in front of their home fans.
“Every training session has an impact and it’s an opportunity for the players to pick themselves up and focus on the next game,” said the Dutchman during the pre-match press conference.
“We have a squad that has youth and experience and I expect them to react against Al Ain and fight until the last minute of the game. We only have to look at ourselves and hopefully we can claim the three points.”
Despite missing a number of internationals, Streppel is hopeful new signings – Brazilian attacker Keno, Serbian defender Milos Kosanovic and Moroccan star Mourad Batna will feature.
But Streppel is aware that his team will have to be at the top of their game to beat Al Ain.
“Keno, Milos and Batna are not 100 per cent fit but hopefully they can recover in time for the match,” he said.
“We have done our homework on Al Ain. They are a very good side who are physically strong. It is hard to predict which players Al Ain will be on the pitch but for sure we will give our best.”
Meanwhile, experienced defender Musallam Fayez insists Al Jazira will give everything they can to make the fans proud.
“Our preparations have been very good,” said the 32-year-old. “Al Ain are a good side but we also have a strong squad. We lost our last game and we will put in 100 per cent effort to ensure we get back to winning ways. I hope we can achieve that on Friday.”
