The manager of Al Jazira, Henk Ten Cate, insisted that his team wants to take the first place in group A from Al Ahli, and reach the round of 16 as group winners, after they officially reached the first knockout stage since round 5 as runner-ups, with 8 points for them and 11 for Al Ahli, who was the winner of the first encounter between the two teams.

Speaking to the media during the pre-match conference the coach said “It will be an interesting match, because the two teams officially reached the next stage, and competing now for the first position in the group. We are waiting eagerly from tomorrow game because we want to take the first position for ourselves, and because we didn’t deserve to lose the first encounter against them, where we were the better side, with the higher number of chances and shots towards the goal”.

The coach added, “Our preparations are good and going normally and with high morale, all the players are fit and ready to participate in the game, except of Mohamed Al Attas, who is still working on gaining the necessary match fitness to join us in the field”.

“We want to win tomorrow to be the group winners, but in general, we will be ready for any opponent from group C in the next stage. Later today I will watch the decisive match from that group to have a better background about our next opponent”, the manager said.

Ten Cate stressed that his team passed the complicated days the suffered after their elimination from the UAE President Cup, “It was very disappointing for us to see our campaign in the President Cup ends like that, we were the better side against Al Wahda statistically, but they scored the goals, and this is the most important statistic in football. The following disappointed days after that defeat are behind us now, and we convert our focus completely to the AFC Champions League, specifically to tomorrow game against Al Ahli”.

Talking about the opponent, the manager said “Al Ahli is good team, they are disciplined and organized and strong as players and group. We need to be highly focused and smart against them, and I hope things will go better for us this time, and we can score from any chance we might create tomorrow”.
