AFC Champions League Two™ newcomers Golgohar Sirjan from the Islamic Republic of Iran held Al Jazira of the United Arab Emirates to a 0-0 draw at Hisor Central Stadium on Tuesday as the teams took a point apiece in their Group B opener.

Neither side was able to find a way through during the clash in Tajikistan with the Iranians’ well-drilled defence keeping their more experienced Cosmin Olaroiu-coached opponents at bay throughout.

Former Guangzhou Evergrande and Al Nassr Club forward Anderson Talisca carried the main threat for Al Jazira, with the Brazilian going close on multiple occasions during the opening 45 minutes to giving the side from the Emirates the lead.

His first sight of goal came in the 12th minute when he attempt from distance flew narrowly wide of Farzin Garousian’s left post while 20 minutes later his header from eight yards out was comfortably gathered by the goalkeeper.

Masoumi Mohammad Erfan headed the ball over his own crossbar while under pressure from the Al Jazira forward line and Talisca’s 38th minute shot from the edge of the penalty area curled harmlessly to safety.
Al Jazira’s dominance continued into the second half, with Garousian called upon to take evasive action in the 59th minute.

M’Hammad Rabii powered down the right flank to deliver an arcing cross that Bruno Conceicao rose highest to meet, powering his downward header towards the corner of the goal. Garousian threw himself to his right to deny what seemed certain to be the opener.

Thirteen minutes later, Mamadou Coulibaly bounced his effort off the top of the crossbar, the midfielder looping his shot towards goal after Talisca’s free kick had been blocked and Milson rolled the rebound back into his team mate’s path.

Erfan headed Milson’s left-wing cross over his own goal in the final minute as Al Jazira probed for a way through while Kristjan Asllani almost netted at the death with a diving header but the Iranian side’s defence remained resolute to secure a point.
